MCS-150 renewals are due once every two years. The renewal date (month and year) are determined by your DOT Number. The last digit indicates the month, while the one before the last indicates the year when renewals must take place.
Yes, the biennial update is required for every U.S. DOT Number, regardless of how long you have been in business. You can read about the official regulation, FMCSR 390.201 by clicking here. Failure to complete a Biennial Update may result in deactivation of your USDOT number and may result in civil penalties of up to $1,000 per day, not to exceed $10,000. The fines may be assessed during a Compliance Review (DOT Audit) resulting from a reportable accident. If you missed your deadline and are filing late, make sure to file in the year when your update is due to protect yourself from penalties. It's easy. Simply complete the form on the right and our agents will process your request on the same business day and will have an approval mailed to you within 2-3 business days. Hoffenmer charges the lowest fee in the industry for MCS-150 Updates. Guaranteed.
If your DOT was not suspended then you are quite lucky. However, you may run the risk of suspension at any time should your company be targeted by the FMCSA (poor CSA scores, accidents) and issuance of penalties up to $10,000 that may be assessed at any time especially during a DOT Audit/Compliance Review.
If you have not filed your update and are still unsure what it pertains to, we invite you to call your local FMCSA agent (each state has a local field office) or call Hoffenmer and we will be more than happy to explain this requirement to you.
